Day 37 : 9 Earth is round - Legs...

... May 2011, landed in Bahia, Brazil party IV

We had some really beautiful days at the beach. The flight and car ride had gone to bed with my wife. She spoke again. We stayed at Sage Point. It is a poussanda is a illegal building on the beach in the trees. Our room was 20 feet up in a tree. To get up there it was a wobbly spiral staircase around a tree. As my status is today in 2013, I would have been very difficult to take me up there. Down will always work.

The tide is more than a meter, so the beach five meters from
the staircase was cleaned every morning. The waves were 10 feet high. The noise when they broke against the shore was almost deafening. But even so relaxing.

Re-stenos
One of the days we decided to take a walk into the village. It is just over two kilometres. The road is covered with centuries-old cobblestones. Uneven and bumpy. In the current situation, I could not cross the road without crutches. When we come into the village says the legs stop. We had to sit down in a café and rest.

I sit and think, Shit, the legs stop obeying. My wife realized that we could not go back again. Across the street was a motorcycle rental. We looked at each other and nodded.

Our transportation problem was solved. We went bike back and forth through the village and on various excursions. I was a bit worried about balance. It had not been possible to ride two-wheeler before my surgery in Poland. The balance was low for a while. I could not lift my leg over the saddle. Now, in all cases, it is possible. The legs might just been tired after everything consistently?

The earth is round
A friend in Brazil has an incredibly beautiful summer house in Bahia. His beach front are several hundred acres. The house is located on a hill about two kilometres from the sea. The view of the Atlantic Ocean over 180 degrees. As I stood on the terrace and looked out, I can see with the naked eye that the earth is round. Powerful.

After a delicious lunch, then we went by quads down to his beach. It runs a small river across his land. It empties into the sea. We swam there in the afternoon. The water in the river was around 35-40C and the sea refreshed with its 32C.

Itacaré

A day before the journey home, my wife stopped to talk again. I knew it was the flight from Ilhéus as haunted. I told her that I understood why she not wanted to go home. It certainly did not either!

When you are in paradise, it is easy to forget about MS.

Today Today my planning has been working excellent. No stress and good time between meetings. The delayed closing from yesterday is closed today. Everybody is happy, and everything went smooth.

I had meetings on three places, and I had to stock some organic and allowed items. I have been searching for black wild-rice for almost two weeks.

Today I found it. I order 3 kg, and the shop rob me on 80 Euro. ;)
Gangster!

Legs...
I have a problem to walk again. I had to use the crush in the afternoon. Stress is devastating for my walk. I have to take it easy and have a good time between tasks. I also need time for rest. Diet has made me much more alert. Stem Cell research requires that I quit the MS brake medicine. It feels good that my body is detoxified now.

I only eat Fampyra to improve the mobility. I forgot to take Fampyra a day on my rehab in Poland. Then Dagmara was worried, why was my preformance so much worse?

Day 35 : 7 Brazil - Segway

... May 2011, landed in Bahia, Brazil part III
There is a small private airstrip just 50 km from Ilhéus, we try to land there the pilot said in the speakers. My wife was by now white in her face, and cold sweating. The landing went well, but where the hell were we? I had ordered a car to collect us this morning in Ilhéus. There is no risk that the car would be in place nine hours later in the jungle.

Baggage pick-up
We walk off the plane on a gravel pitch. Then an overloaded hay-cart with our bags. We were over 100 passengers on the plane, it took a while until we all had found our belongings. In the meantime, I called my contact in Sao Paolo, and told her what happened. No problem, she says. The car should be there where you are now. Okay?

We drag our bags out on the gravel path. Indeed, there will be a happy guy in the 25-year-old. He throws the bags in an old Audi 100. He told me that he had seen the plane try to land all times from the ground. He thought it was exciting with a little drama. I told him that we thought the same. The wife was still quiet. I wondered how he had managed to run the five mile straight line from Ilhéus at the same time it took us to fly.

The race
I did not think long. We had 150 km to go there we would. He did it in one hour flat. It would certainly not have been so surprising if there had been a highway. It was not. It was a winding country road in Sweden would be limited to 70 or 90 km / h He drove the hell out of his Audi. I'm not afraid year, I have driven both STCC and Formula 3 in court. This guy was a real racing topic. There speed were between 120-190 km / h all the way through the jungle.

When I asked him about the risk of animal collision, he just smiles. There are no animals larger than crocodiles. The other animals will disappear when the car is washed. The biggest problem is the people, but they usually move away.

When we arrived at the lodge, my wife began to talk gradually again, after three glasses of wine and a beer. It's probably no chance that MS will have time to kill me.

There is other possibilities.

Today
It has been a been s sunny day here in Stockholm. I think the spring has arrived. Blue sky and +5C. I need to come out for a wild. That was no problem with my Segway.
After the Rehab in Poland, I try to walk without crutches. They are giving me back-problems. Now, I can not walk more than 50 meter. Then the Segway give me an opportunity to be part of the spring.

Today my legs start shaking after 1 km. I just had to rest for 5 minutes the I could continue again. After one hour we was back home. We sat down with a cup of coffe/green tea in the sun.

Segway training...
The last autumn I bought a new X2 white big wheels. In December it was time for the Segway première. The first 10 centimetres of snow had come. I figured it could not be any problems with a Segway with big winter tires.

Oh how wrong I was. I made two spectacular falls. It was only just that I took myself out of snowdrifts. Then there was the next problem, getting Segway to ploughed surface. I got help from a couple who was out and was walking the dog. They just shook his head. I told them, "I'm a bit stupid, and I have proof of it."

Day 33 : 5 - Eastern

... May 2011, Brazil
In late May, me and my wife to Brazil for two weeks of vacation. I've been there several times before. This trip we booked before I went to Poland to undergo CCSVI.
At my previous trips had the disease made itself more increasingly. The concern was that this trip may be the last opportunity to make an adventure trip. The disease made it harder and harder for me. Furthermore, I did not tolerate the heat and was tired all the time.

CCSVI changed conditions drastically. I could make my way back, and was not tired as before. That I could stand the heat and I found out when we were in Brazil.

A day at work in 2006
At one of the previous trips in 2006, two years before the diagnosis, I and one of mine companions went there. We had bought land along the coast of Bahia. The ground was very inaccessible to the body from the place we stayed at. There is a good car road, but then the journey 250 km. The short shortcut was only 30 km.

We rented two Cross bikes. They should take us around everywhere. We had to cross two rivers. The last piece we had to charter a boat to take us over from a peninsula to the next.

The first river was not a problem. There was a ferry, or maybe it's exaggerating, a pontoon that caulk of two decommissioned fishing boats. But it worked. Buses, kids, witches and all others who wanted to could go with almost free. There was a road all the way Barra Grande. Road is perhaps a bit exaggerated. It had certainly not been possible to drive by car. The vehicles we met and drove to where jeeps or large trucks and buses.

In some places where pits in essence three feets deep, the other was the road of quicksand. We went down a few times with our motorcycles. There was no real harm done, it was soft in the sand.

After four hours we arrived at the port. We chartered a boat and went over to our land. There we were picked up by the supervisor on the beach with a Beach Buggy. The beach was shallow and the tide was out, so we had to wade into the lukewarm water 500 meters. The water was warmer and warmer the closer to the beach we came. The last fifty meters our feet were boiled. The water was probably over 50 degrees.

The journey back ran without trouble until we arrived at the ferry. It was broken. The river was 500 feet wide and deep. It would have been good to swim, but not with bikes. We found some guys with canoes. The problem was solved. Small but efficient ferries.

It was a day of work, which perhaps was not quite like any other.

Today
This morning we went to IKEA to shop some small items. We come home with the car full of boxes. The car started to sound strange. The noise came from the front end of the car. After a moment of listening wi found the source of the noise. It creaked behind the left front wheel. Jack and rim cross was picked up. We helped to remove the front wheel. Pretty soon it was found, this is not something we can fix. There is a case for the repair shop.

I put an end to all energy on playing car mechanic and run at IKEA. In the afternoon I slept dinner in two hours. It is the first time I rest in the afternoon after I got home from Poland last week.

I need to listen more to my body. I feel much better after the workout, but I am far from healthy.

Happy Easter. (without eggs and candy)
