Day 35 : 7 Brazil - Segway

... May 2011, landed in Bahia, Brazil part III
There is a small private airstrip just 50 km from Ilhéus, we try to land there the pilot said in the speakers. My wife was by now white in her face, and cold sweating. The landing went well, but where the hell were we? I had ordered a car to collect us this morning in Ilhéus. There is no risk that the car would be in place nine hours later in the jungle.

Baggage pick-up
We walk off the plane on a gravel pitch. Then an overloaded hay-cart with our bags. We were over 100 passengers on the plane, it took a while until we all had found our belongings. In the meantime, I called my contact in Sao Paolo, and told her what happened. No problem, she says. The car should be there where you are now. Okay?

We drag our bags out on the gravel path. Indeed, there will be a happy guy in the 25-year-old. He throws the bags in an old Audi 100. He told me that he had seen the plane try to land all times from the ground. He thought it was exciting with a little drama. I told him that we thought the same. The wife was still quiet. I wondered how he had managed to run the five mile straight line from Ilhéus at the same time it took us to fly.

The race
I did not think long. We had 150 km to go there we would. He did it in one hour flat. It would certainly not have been so surprising if there had been a highway. It was not. It was a winding country road in Sweden would be limited to 70 or 90 km / h He drove the hell out of his Audi. I'm not afraid year, I have driven both STCC and Formula 3 in court. This guy was a real racing topic. There speed were between 120-190 km / h all the way through the jungle.

When I asked him about the risk of animal collision, he just smiles. There are no animals larger than crocodiles. The other animals will disappear when the car is washed. The biggest problem is the people, but they usually move away.

When we arrived at the lodge, my wife began to talk gradually again, after three glasses of wine and a beer. It's probably no chance that MS will have time to kill me.

There is other possibilities.

Today
It has been a been s sunny day here in Stockholm. I think the spring has arrived. Blue sky and +5C. I need to come out for a wild. That was no problem with my Segway.
After the Rehab in Poland, I try to walk without crutches. They are giving me back-problems. Now, I can not walk more than 50 meter. Then the Segway give me an opportunity to be part of the spring.

Today my legs start shaking after 1 km. I just had to rest for 5 minutes the I could continue again. After one hour we was back home. We sat down with a cup of coffe/green tea in the sun.

Segway training...
The last autumn I bought a new X2 white big wheels. In December it was time for the Segway première. The first 10 centimetres of snow had come. I figured it could not be any problems with a Segway with big winter tires.

Oh how wrong I was. I made two spectacular falls. It was only just that I took myself out of snowdrifts. Then there was the next problem, getting Segway to ploughed surface. I got help from a couple who was out and was walking the dog. They just shook his head. I told them, "I'm a bit stupid, and I have proof of it."

Day 23 - Balance

... April 2011, part 1
Artic cat 660 Turbo
Last year I had bought a snowmobile. I had not driven it many yards without passengers.

In Sweden it is allowed to go off-road, crossing bridges and that the terrain is not feasible to go a short white on public roads. My general condition had become worse. I barely had the energy in the body to unload it from the trailer.

An old friend had returned to Sweden after service abroad for many years. He still retains his cabin in the mountains. He called and asked if we could take a ride in the mountains. I told her about my difficulties, and he said, no problem, I will help you.

We go up on a Friday afternoon. The journey takes six hours with trailer. We had two snowmobiles on the trailer. It was fortunate that I had ticked the license for heavy trailer on my to do list.

Trailer licence
Driving test for driving license I did in the autumn. The requirement for the license is heavy vehicles over 3.5ton and heavy trailer. Driving in traffic was no problem, it was in itself not back exercise either. What created the problem was the tone of the left leg. I could not hold the draw with the clutch. The leg just shook. The inspector did not sit in the vehicle. I solved the problem with the left elbow. I kept the foot on the pedal and used the body weight on the left knee.

Mountain
Reindeer in the mountains
The Saturday morning we went up and get dressed. We put on all the clothes we had with us. It was -20C outside and the wind was blowing.

Three guys on snowmobiles, of course, contest was unavoidable. It was at times up to 160km/h, then you have to be 110% sharp. One small mistake and you are off, or crash.

Fish
I got the fish
We stayed at a lake to rest. There we drilled a hole in the ice. We took out the fishing rods and start fishing. We got some trout. Good food.

When we got back to the cabin at night we had gone 250km in the mountains. I was so tired that you can not describe. When I must drive my snowmobile around the cottage, I stuck in a snowdrift and overturned. My leg trapped under the scooter, it did not work at all. The boys dig up me and salvage snowmobile. They help me into the house and take my clothes off and put me on the couch.

I sit there in the sofa, with a glass of whiskey in front of the fire and add up the day. This was the last ride on the mountain. Now the body can´t any more. When I get hungry again, I will remember this trip. It has been a great day.

When I am at home again on Monday, I got contact with AMEDS. In a few hours, everything was clear. The 25/4 I'd go. There was only one thing to do before Poland.

Africa.

Today at the Rehab

Polish spring...
Yesterday I was talking about negative things. I have been thinking on something else to complain about. The only thing I can find out about, is the weather. Today we had another 15 centimetres. If I would file a complain about that, I have to go to the church.

The schedule was as always full. The timing is good, so there are time between for rest.

Good things
Over all I had the best of service, from everyone here at AMEDS Rehabilitation program in Lask. The center witch are housing us are Columna Medica. All contacts, from the professor to the girls cleaning my room are as good they can be. I lift my hat.

Item 1, Food & Diet
What I was not expecting was the focus that the diet had. I am now completely detoxified from sugar, gluten and bad carbs. At the same time, I have learned a lot about how I will manage my diet.

Restaurant Caina

The kitchen here has done a fantastic job, and they manage to get everything to taste very good.

I myself am a restaurateur, so my expectations of food is very high. I thought in my simplicity that low carb diet would be dull over time. It's not if you put a little love in the preparation.

I am not taking any MS drugs, because the stem cell treatment. Then it is even more important to be aware of what you are putting in your mouth. If I got any new relapses now, I may have to start over with the drugs.

Then the stem cells are gone...

MS Rehab

Perfect practice, makes perfect.
MS Rehab with new focus
In a few weeks I am going to AMEDS in Poland for four weeks ms rehab. This is a rehab solely intended for patients with MS. AMEDS has many years of experience in CCSVI treatments and has concluded that rehabilitation is crucial for CCSVI treatment will give the best results.

I have had
angiology at AMEDS in April 2011, and has been on the follow-up in August the same year. I will tell you more about the visits under the tab CCSVI. (in Swedish)

I have also been at rehab three times in Sweden. What I missed here at home is, the real drive to achieve the best results in all areas. Of course after my own conditions. I've learned a lot of the ms-teams that I already have met, but know that it is possible to get rehabilitation even longer.

I come daily to fill in with my experiences.
