Day 26 - Liberation

Want to skip the history? - Scroll down to the black text.

CCSVI Liberation
It was a little uncomfortable when Piotr punctured vein in the groin. A moment later, I thought of the text of Eva Dahlgren's song. "It lives somewhere else in my body"... It was a strange feeling when Piotr drove the probe up through the body, with the accompaniment of Queen, "We Will Rock You". It was rock-n-roll for real.

It was very interesting to see on the monitor is exactly what happened in the body. He showed and told all the time what he found, and how he corrected the stenos-is. After the last enlargement, I felt that my feet were getting warm again.

The procedure was completed in less than an hour. When I came up to the room again, my wife ordered pizza. Last meal has been breakfast. I was hungry as a galley slave. I had to lie still on my back for 12 hours. I was certainly not supposed to get me up or tighten my stomach. My wife fed me pizza, the Coca Cola I drank with a straw. After my feast, she went back to the hotel.

I wake up after a few hours and was pee for real. I waited a while, maybe the nurse would come in and look at me. The alarm button had dropped on the floor, so I had no use of it. I could scream, but at 2 o'clock at night, it would bring the entire department to a standing position.

The nurse comes in at 3 o'clock. I told her, I have to pee NOW! She smiled and shoved the pelvic bottle at the shelf on the bedside table. Completely within my reach. I fill the bottle to the brim, empties out a bit in my coffee mug and a little to the empty glass on the bedside table. Then pee a little longer. It was liberation for real. After that I fall asleep until morning rounds came and woke me up.

The bandage was removed and replaced with a small swab. I was still not aloud to get up before the doctor looked at the wound. She arrived a moment later and gave me the green light to gently go up and take a shower.

I felt good, and could feel that the body response was a little better. Obviously I want to test my ability. I walked slowly back and forth in the hallway. It went much better than yesterday. To increase the difficulty level a bit, I went out into the stairwell. I went up two floors. No problem.

On the way down I met Piotr in the stairs. He looked very sternly at me and shakes his head.

DENNIS - BACK TO YOUR ROOM - NOW!

Today at the Rehab

I will always try to do everything a little better. In particular if I can do a exercise good, I will try to make it a little harder. All the machines in the gym has a build-in computer. When you enter the machine you put a small USB key in the machine.

This morning Dagmara took my stick. I did not use it yesterday, and she asked me why. I told her the weights and the count was lady-wise. She re-programmed it and gave it back to me with the words, Dennis now you can do the machines.

Pull-down
I took the stick and putted it in the pull down machine. The display told me to put on 25kg and do 15 repetitions

Good now we´re talking. I used to do 10 at 20kg. The machine then told me to take 1 minute break. I passed the message after 10 seconds. Next set 30kg and 15 repetitions. Puh, that was heavy. Next machine... No... I was not finished, Rest for one minute. I used the full minute. The third set 35kg and 15 repetitions. Well I can handle the weight but 15...

Rubber-band
Next it was my turn to make fun of my self. I ordered 5 meters of red rubber-band from the shop. Then I put the rubber-band under my feet and tied it around my leg.

The aim was serious, I would help my left leg to release some weight from it.

Everybody did laugh at me, but it worked. I was just looking for the feeling that the left leg will follow the right. It succeed.

We did an extra walking test today to verify the results from yesterday. MS is a strange decease, not two days are equal. Today result were better than yesterday. I can feel the difference between the days, but it is hard to explain to others.

Now I have it on paper.

Item 3, Quality
What ever you look at, put in your mouth or take in your hand is very well done. It is 100% quality, no compromises. For example, the training pool is seventeen meters long made in stainless steel without joints. Impressing. The indoor climate is good and comfortable. The WiFi is covering every square inch of the building with good speed. There is soft music in all common surfaces with good sound quality. My guess, it is as good as any Design Hotel in the world.

Now it is time for me to go back to my room.

Tomorrow is the last full day.

Day 22 - Muscle Soreness

Want to skip the history? - Scroll down to the black text.

...march 2011
I used a lot of energy to get through the various meetings during the winter. Clothing, crutches and portfolio. Half the energy was spent shovelling the car out of the snow and take me to different places. I slept probably 10 hours a night, and two hours in the afternoon. I do not know how I had time to suffice, but it went in some how.

I started thinking about how my situation would be resolved. I started searching on CCSVI treatments, and found a handful of clinics around the world who performed the surgery. I decision was not made then, it had to wait until I got home from my next trip.

Thailand
My previous plan, to travel as much as possible while I can still walk, was not flagged. One of the trips went to Thailand. Father in law has a back injury, so he spends like the cold season there. It suited me perfectly.  I found it hard to take me up on the snow and ice on the one hand. On the other hand, I also had problems with the heat.

Pneumonia
The evening before my departure, my wife fell ill suddenly. In the middle of the night we went to the hospital. She had almost 40 degree fever. I decided to cancel the trip. I could not leave her at home with three kids and be really sick. Almost at the same moment, the doctor in with sample answers and some tablets. She got a really strong antibiotics. We went home and she went to sleep a few hours and woke up in the morning and was feeling much better.

My flight would be leaving at 13:40, so there was still time to catch up with. Everything was packed in the bag. My wife says, you can go, I feel better and I know what the problem is. After the agony, I decided to go anyway. It did not feel right, but she knew I needed to get away from the cold. Thank you!

The problem with the heat worked out the best way. On the day I could be in the pool or in my air-conditioned bedroom and rest. We went to Hua Hin for dinner every night. If two men are very few days, craps is not the kitchen unnecessarily.

It was ten really lazy and lazy days. While I allowed myself massages almost daily. Then says the jealous, yes, yes, with happy ending. No, it was not so. It helped me a lot with the warm climate and massage. I became more mobile and got a little better contact with the legs. It is much easier to move around without a lot of clothes on.

During the warm evenings / nights, I and my father in law sat on his porch, talking shit and drank whiskey.

Today at the Rehab

Me and Amir Katoozian
This morning my legs were a little bit achy after yesterdays Nordic walking. But that is good. This afternoon I had some time to think. Justyna from AMEDS asked me about the Rehab so fare. Well this is my 22nd day here. I can´t say that I am missing anything at all. Of cause, my family, but nothing else.

Item 1
The funny thing, people always come up with negative things. They are more easy to find, and others will listen with more attention. I try to think, yes, I found one. The first week here I woke up one night at 3am dreaming about food. The bed was soaked with sweat.

MEGA SIZE BIG MAC MEAL, PLEASE!

Three weeks ago I was addicted to sugar. My new diet don´t not contain any sugar at all. Today I am cured. The next AA meting at home, I can open with "I am a sugar addict..."

Item 2
I just come up with item two. I need go shopping when I got back home. My pants fall off. My check-in weight was 82.2kg, this morning 77.6kg.

I HATE GO SHOPPING!

After all it is not a complain, it is just corrections of my bad habits. Then it is easy to say, couldn´t you fixed that on you own, at home. Did you need to go to Poland to have that done? My quick answer will be, those two items are just side effects of the treatment here. And they both are good.

I see if I can find something else to complain to during my sleep. I let you know tomorrow.

MS Rehab

Perfect practice, makes perfect.
MS Rehab with new focus
In a few weeks I am going to AMEDS in Poland for four weeks ms rehab. This is a rehab solely intended for patients with MS. AMEDS has many years of experience in CCSVI treatments and has concluded that rehabilitation is crucial for CCSVI treatment will give the best results.

I have had
angiology at AMEDS in April 2011, and has been on the follow-up in August the same year. I will tell you more about the visits under the tab CCSVI. (in Swedish)

I have also been at rehab three times in Sweden. What I missed here at home is, the real drive to achieve the best results in all areas. Of course after my own conditions. I've learned a lot of the ms-teams that I already have met, but know that it is possible to get rehabilitation even longer.

I come daily to fill in with my experiences.
